Attribution and terms

What every app that uses N-Ways maps or data must show and may do: the N-Ways Maps Platform terms, version 1.3.

On this page
Note:

Version 1.3, in force from 27 October 2026. These are the N-Ways Maps Platform terms between you and N-WAYS LIMITED. If you have signed an agreement with N-WAYS LIMITED, where it differs from this page, it wins.

Attribution

N-Ways maps and data are built on OpenStreetMap, which is © OpenStreetMap contributors and licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). The ODbL requires a credit wherever its data is shown. So wherever you show an N-Ways map, or N-Ways data on another map or in a list, show:

The credit
N-Ways · © OpenStreetMap contributors
  • On a map: in a corner of the map, readable, with “OpenStreetMap contributors” linking to https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright. The Maps SDK shows it for you; MapLibre’s compact ⓘ button is fine, as long as it opens the credit.
  • Without a map (a list of places, an address on a receipt, a route time): in the same screen or document, near the data, for example in a footer or an “About this data” link.
  • Other sources: some results carry their own attribution field (for example GhanaPost GPS addresses from OpenStreetMap). Show it with that result. The tiles also credit Protomaps; places include data from the Overture Maps Foundation; the address lists’ districts and parishes in Togo, Sierra Leone, Cabo Verde, Liberia, The Gambia, Gabon and Burkina Faso come from OCHA’s common operational datasets (HDX COD-AB, CC BY-IGO).
  • Don’t hide, cover, shrink to unreadable or remove the credit, or imply that N-Ways or OpenStreetMap endorses your app.

What you may store

DataYou may keep it
IDs: place id, result id, postcodesAs long as you like, to look things up again
A coordinate or address for one of your customers’ orders, deliveries or saved placesAs long as you need it for that customer
Geocoding and places answers in generalUp to 30 days as a cache, then ask again
Routes, ETAs, fares and trafficFor the trip they were asked for; don’t reuse traffic or ETAs later
Map tiles and fontsIn the browser’s or MapLibre’s normal cache only

Where data comes from OpenStreetMap, the ODbL lets you keep and reuse it under its own terms (share-alike for a database you build from it). Our caching limits are about N-Ways’ own service and data: the corrections, postcode placements, entrances, traffic and fares our users add.

What you may not do

  • Download tiles or data in bulk, crawl grids of coordinates, or otherwise copy N-Ways’ database.
  • Resell or share your keys, or let others use the APIs through yours, except as part of your own app.
  • Use N-Ways to build a competing maps platform.
  • Use N-Ways for anything unlawful, to track people without their consent, or for safety-critical systems where a wrong route could cause harm (N-Ways is for planning and guidance; people must still follow road signs and the law).
  • Get around rate limits, quotas or key restrictions.
  • Get around billing: for example, by having riders or drivers on your deliveries copy addresses into the N-Ways map app or website, signed out or on another account, so that their navigation isn’t billed to your organisation; or by opening more organisations to get more free units.

Billing

  • Prepaid. Use past your free units is paid from your credit, in your country’s currency. Without credit, new work is refused until you add some.
  • One free allowance per company. Your free units each month are shared by API keys and N-Ways apps, and by every organisation with the same owner.
  • During a delivery, the company pays. Each delivery is charged once, when it is first given to a rider or accepted by a connected N-Ways driver. While someone is on one of your deliveries, their use of N-Ways (directions, searches, calls and safety alerts) is billed to your organisation.
  • What can’t wait is never stopped. Deliveries under way, safety alerts and calls carry on when your credit runs out. What they cost is owed, and your next top-up pays it first.

Monthly plan

If your company runs its deliveries on N-Ways, it can pay for them with a monthly plan of so many deliveries instead of per use.

  • It renews every month. Your plan carries on from month to month, paid from your company’s credit, until you stop it. Each month is billed a week ahead and is due on the last day of the month before; we take it from your credit as soon as there’s enough.
  • What it covers. The deliveries you send from the console and N-Ways Business, and the N-Ways apps’ use for them. Calls made with your API keys stay pay-per-use.
  • Free days. A new plan starts with 3 free days, or a free first month when we offer one. The rest of that first month is then billed by the day.
  • If a bill isn’t paid. Three days after its due date, new deliveries pause until it’s paid; deliveries under way carry on. Adding credit pays it.
  • Changing plan. Moving up starts at once, and the difference for the rest of the month is billed then. Moving down starts next month.
  • Stopping it. Stop your plan at any time with “Stop plan” in Billing, with no fee. It stops at the end of the month you’ve already paid for and keeps working until then. The month already paid isn’t refunded; unpaid bills for the months after it are cancelled, and any unused credit stays in your account.

Contractors and deliveries

N-Ways connects your company with the N-Ways app users you invite to take your deliveries (contractors). N-Ways is only a software provider: it isn’t a party to your arrangement with them, their employer or your agent.

  • You vet your contractors. N-Ways doesn’t verify anyone’s identity, licences, vehicle or record. You’re responsible for checking who your contractors are, and for collecting, securing and lawfully handling their identity details. You confirm you’ve met each contractor in person before inviting them, and we recommend you do.
  • You pay them directly. You set the most you’ll pay for a delivery; with Smart Price, N-Ways offers it at lower prices first and raises it only while nobody accepts. You pay the contractor the price they accepted, directly into the bank account they show you. N-Ways never receives, holds, sends or guarantees money. The receipts you upload and the contractor’s “received” are records, not proof of payment by N-Ways.
  • Bank details are for paying them only. Use a contractor’s bank account only to pay them for your deliveries, and stop using it when the connection ends.
  • No liability for deliveries or money. To the extent the law allows, N-WAYS LIMITED isn’t responsible for lost, late or damaged deliveries or packages, for unpaid, late or wrong payments, or for disputes between you, your contractors and your customers.
  • Getting around billing isn’t allowed. Don’t arrange deliveries outside N-Ways after they were offered through it to avoid the per-delivery fee.

Your users’ privacy

N-Ways doesn’t use the coordinates and addresses you send to build profiles of your users, and doesn’t sell them. We keep request logs for security and billing for a limited time, as our privacy policy describes. You must tell your users, in your own privacy policy, that their locations and addresses are sent to N-Ways to give them maps and directions.

Service

  • Uptime: the free calls and plans without an uptime commitment are provided as they are. Plans with one (Business, Enterprise) carry the monthly uptime commitment on the pricing page, and your agreement says what applies when we miss it.
  • Changes: we announce breaking changes to the APIs at least 12 months ahead. Versions and changes
