Ad formats
Every N-Way ad is a billboard on your building: a card with your photo, GIF or video, and a marker on the map. What people see depends on what they are doing, so drivers stay safe.
The billboard
Your ad appears in two places at once:
- A card with your photo, GIF or video, its title, your business name, a Sponsored tag and its buttons. While browsing the map it sits at the top of the screen. On a trip it takes the place of the turn card at the top, and the turn card comes back as soon as the ad ends.
- A billboard on your building, so people see exactly where you are.
On a trip, when there’s no turn within 800 m and the car is at 40 km/h or slower, the map eases out a little to show your building, then returns to normal.
Still or video
What plays depends on what the person is doing. The app checks this continuously, so a video that is playing at a red light turns into its still poster when the car moves off.
| Situation | What shows | Learn more |
|---|---|---|
| Browsing the map (not on a trip) | Video or GIF plays | Yes |
| Walking | Video or GIF plays | Yes |
| On a trip at 10 km/h or slower (traffic, a red light, parked) | Video or GIF plays | Yes |
| On a trip faster than 10 km/h | Still poster only, no motion | No, Save keeps it for later |
Videos play muted. People can tap the sound button on the card to hear yours.
Safety rules
Ads never get in the way of driving. They never change the route, the turn-by-turn guidance, the speed shown or the camera that follows the car, and they never show over safety messages.
- A notice first. About 30 seconds before a driver reaches your billboard, a short chime and the words “Sponsored message ahead” tell them it’s coming. There’s no sound on muted trips or while browsing.
- Never near a turn. No ad starts within 300 m of a turn, and an ad on screen gets out of the way when a turn comes within 200 m.
- Never over other cards. No ad while a fuel, break, toll, stop, faster-route, “still going?” or report card is up.
- Not too often. At most one ad every 10 minutes on a trip. See frequency limits.
- Ready before it shows. The poster is loaded before the billboard appears, so showing it never stalls the map.
- Gone when you’ve passed. The ad ends when the car is well past your building, or after its length plus a short pause.
Buttons
| Button | What it does | When |
|---|---|---|
| Route there | Adds your building as a stop on the current trip, or starts directions to it. Arriving counts as a visit. | Always |
| Save | Keeps the ad on the phone for later. | Always |
| Get offer | Gives a code like NW-4F2K to show at your counter. | If you added an offer |
| Learn more | Opens your website in the phone’s browser. | If you added a website, and it’s safe (see above) |
| ✕ Not interested | Closes the ad. That phone doesn’t see it again for 7 days; three of these for one business hide all its ads there for 30 days. | Always |
Saved ads
Saved ads stay on the person’s phone, under Saved ads in their profile (up to 50). From there they can get directions to you, or open your website with Learn more when they’re no longer driving. A Learn more tap from the saved list counts like one from the billboard.
Where ads don’t appear
Ads show only on the map and during trips: never over search results, place pages, settings or any other screen.
